Using JustAnother EQ in your DAW

Insert JustAnother EQ on a track, bus or master. Channel configurations, sidechain routing and host-specific details are covered below.

Channel configurations

  • Stereo: the standard setup, with every stereo feature available.
  • Mono: every band processes the single channel, and the band card shows “Mono” in place of the channel routing.
  • Mono in, stereo out (for example, Logic’s Mono->Stereo insert): the mono input is copied to both sides, so Left/Right and Mid/Side bands work as on a stereo track.

Surround layouts are not supported, and JustAnother EQ doesn’t use MIDI.

Routing an external sidechain

A dynamic band can react to another track, for example ducking the low mids of a bass whenever the kick hits, and Pitch Tracking can follow another track in the same way. JustAnother EQ has an optional mono or stereo Sidechain input that your DAW keeps off until you route something to it.

  1. In your DAW, send the key track to JustAnother EQ’s sidechain input, as shown below.
  2. In the plugin, set the band’s sidechain source to External (see Sidechain), or the Pitch Tracking Source (see Pitch Tracking Settings).
  • Logic Pro: in the plugin window header, choose the key track or bus from the Side Chain menu.
  • Pro Tools: in the plugin window header, choose a bus from the Key Input menu, then send the key track to that bus.
  • Cubase / Nuendo: click the Side-Chain button in the plugin window header, then send the key track to the plugin’s side-chain input.
  • Studio One: enable the Sidechain button in the plugin window header, then send the key track to the plugin’s sidechain input.
  • Ableton Live: open the plugin device’s sidechain section and choose the key track under Audio From.
  • REAPER: set the EQ track to 4 channels, send the key track to channels 3/4, and check in the pin connector that 3/4 feed the sidechain input.

A mono key feeds both the left and right detector channels.

Pro Tools notes

  • JustAnother EQ appears in the EQ category of the insert menu (AAX).
  • The Pro Tools plugin window has no resizable frame. Move the mouse to the bottom-right corner of the plugin window and a resize grip fades in (see Window size and UI scale).
  • Keep delay compensation switched on in Pro Tools so the plugin’s latency is compensated.

Latency and rendering

JustAnother EQ reports its latency to the host for delay compensation. The figures are on the Latency page. For freezes and offline bounces, the reported tail allows Linear Phase filters to ring out at the end of a render.
